Harbeson, Del.- The Delaware State Police have identified the driver who was killed in a crash that occurred Tuesday on U.S. 9 just east of Josephs Road.
Police say 50-year-old David H. Pierson Jr. of Milton died of injuries sustained from a collision with a box truck Tuesday morning.
Troopers say shortly before 8 a.m., the 50-year-old driver of a 2016 Ford Transit work van was traveling eastbound on US 9, near Josephs Road, the same time a 2015 Isuzu six-wheel box truck was approaching.
According to Troopers, the driver of the work van crossed the center line and entered the the same lane as the box truck.
The 56-year-old driver of the box truck attempted to swerve to avoid the collision but was not successful, says Police.
Responding officers say after the box truck collided with the work van, it rolled on it’s side before coming to a stop on the shoulder of US 9.
Troopers say the 50-year-old driver from Milton was transported to Beebe Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Milford driver of the box truck was treated and released for minor non-life threatening injuries at Beebe Hospital, according to officers.
US 9 was closed for approximately four hours during the investigation and the cleanup efforts.
Police say they do not believe speed and impairment were factors in the collision.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are still investigating the Harbeson crash.
