LEWES, Del.- A sailboat washed ashore at Cape Henlopen State Park near Fort Miles on Monday morning.
According to the Lewes Fire Department, crews were dispatched to the beach at around 10 a.m. for a man who suffered what was described as a “possible stroke” and was trapped inside a sailboat that had ran aground. The man, who officials said was responsive, was extricated from the boat and taken by ambulance to Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was in stable condition prior to being transported, officials said.
There is no word yet on the man’s identity.
The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control on Monday afternoon was awaiting the arrival of a tugboat with hopes that it would be able to remove the sailboat from the beach.
The boat, named the “Maritime,” is out of Lewes, according to officials.
