DORCHESTER CO., Md. – Harriet Tubman is well-known on Delmarva. This fall, her incredible story will be told to the entire world.
A trailer of the film called “Harriet” has just been released by Focus Features. It’s based on the life of freedom fighter Harriet Tubman, featuring Cynthia Erivo as Tubman.
Angela Crenshaw, the assistant manager for the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park, works everyday to educate others about Tubman’s story.
“You learn about the landscape here in southern Dorchester County and how it built her into the famous woman that we all know and love today,” Crenshaw said. “An underground railroad conductor, a suffragette, the ultimate outdoors woman as I like to call her.”
Tubman was born in Dorchester County. Crenshaw says the upcoming movie will drive interest to the park.
“I just love the fact the movies, books, TV shows such as Underground really get people interested in Harriet’s story and the underground railroad and they make people want to come here and experience it themselves,” Crenshaw said.
The film will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September before it makes its wide release on November 1st.
