Smyrna– The Delaware State Police have arrested a New Castle, DE man after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs and a weapon.

The incident occurred on May 14, 2019, at approximately 11:11 p.m., when a Trooper observed a white Chevrolet Malibu traveling northbound on Route 13 in the area of Route 42 above the posted speed limit.  A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver, identified as 19-year-old Wayne Roane.  Upon contact with Roane the Trooper detected an odor of marijuana.  Roane confirmed that he had marijuana in the vehicle and proceeded to turn over a plastic bag containing marijuana to the Trooper.  Further investigation determined that Roane’s license was suspended and the vehicle’s registration was expired.

A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted when a loaded handgun that was found to be reported stolen, and approximately 453 bags (3.171 grams) of heroin were recovered from the vehicle.

Roane was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 9 where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possesses a Controlled Substance in a Tier 3 Quantity
  • Possession With Intent to Deliver  a Controlled Substance with an Aggravating Factor
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon By a Person Prohibited
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Driving While Suspended
  • Other Traffic Related Offenses

Roane was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $16350.00 secured bond.
