MILLSBORO, Del. – While people are out celebrating this holiday weekend, Delaware is making sure people are celebrating responsibly.

Millsboro Police tell 47 abc that the state Office of Highway Safety gives local police departments extra money each year in order to have more police out patrolling on holidays to make sure people are safe.

Officers say it’s best to have a designated driver if you plan on drinking, and to give yourself extra time since there will be heavy traffic this weekend.

“This year we’re going to focus on speed during the days this weekend, and then at nights we’re going to have extra patrols for DUI patrols,” David Moyer with the Millsboro Police Department said. “We ask everybody to just drive careful, slow down, make sure everybody can get to where they’re going safely.”

People in the Delaware Beach Towns can also utilize the Sober Lyft Program and get a free ride from now until Sunday morning at 2:00 a.m.

To cash in on the app, just text “SoberLift” to 99000.
