WORTON, Md.- The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fire that destroyed a wood frame pole barn in Kent County on Monday evening.  

According to the fire marshal’s office, a passerby reported the fire shortly after 9 p.m. on the property at 11980 Clark Road in Worton.

It took crews from the Betterton Volunteer Fire Company about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

The 32-foot by 30-foot structure and the contents located inside, including a pickup truck, one John Deere Gator, three ATV’s, one dirt bike, and one riding lawn mower, sustained extensive damage as a result of the fire. The structure and contents are considered to be a complete loss, with an estimated $25,000 in damage to the barn and another $125,000 in damage to its contents. 

The fire is believed to have started in the barn’s interior but remains under investigation.
