LONG NECK, Del.- Delaware State Police have arrested two men on drug charges following a vehicle pursuit Saturday.
Troopers were conducting proactive enforcement on Long Neck Road near Banks Road when they saw a gray Dodge Avenger heading northbound on Long Neck Road. The car traveled eastbound on Banks Road towards John J. Williams Highway. As the car approached the intersection, it failed to stop at the stop sign and continued eastbound on John J. Williams Highway, according to police.
A trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop for the violation, but the car failed to stop, police said.
The car then continued eastbound on John J. Williams Highway, heading toward Angola Road. The car made an abrupt right turn onto the road, and as the car approached a curve, the drive slowed and pulled onto the shoulder of the road before jumping out of the moving vehicle, according to police.
As the driver, identified as Wayne Revel Jr., 41, of Smyrna, exited the vehicle, he was taken into custody without incident, police said.
The passenger, 40-year-old Donald Phillips of Milton, reportedly got out of the car and attempted to run into the woods. As he was doing so, he allegedly threw a handful of contraband into the woods, police said.
According to police, Phillips refused to comply with multiple commands to surrender and was ultimately tasered. He was then taken into custody without further incident, police said.
Phillips reportedly complained of shortness of breath, and an ambulance was called and the Rehoboth Beach Fire Department responded to the scene. Phillips refused any further treatment, police said.
A search of the vehicle revealed large quantities of methamphetamine and heroin, along with drug paraphernalia and marijuana, police said.
Revel was charged and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $100,002 cash bond.
Phillips was also charged and committed to SCI in default of $98,505 cash bond.
