MARDELA SPRINGS, Md. – Hundreds of people gathered at the Wright’s Market for the 17th Annual Watermelon Festival and it was all for a good cause.

The event hosted by the local farmer Charles Wright brought outside different nonprofits that help raise money for all sorts of causes.

Organizations like the Delmar VFW and the Lions Club offered some delicious food like burgers and barbecue chicken.

People also enjoyed things like a watermelon eating contest, pony rides and free fresh watermelon slices.

Farmer Wright says this event has a huge impact on the community.

“The community supports us as a local farm family and we wanted to give back, and it’s a chance for everybody to come to the market, see old friends,” said Wright.

Wright says the annual event also gives people a chance to learn more about our local farmers.
