WEST OCEAN CITY, Md.- Authorities are searching for the cause of a large fire that broke out early Friday morning at Mad Fish Bar & Grill on Harbor Road in West Ocean City.
Firefighters were called to the scene shortly after 4 a.m. where they witnessed heavy smoke and fire visible, according to the Ocean City Fire Department.
The department said the three-alarm fire brought multiple fire companies to assist.
This is the location of the former Captain’s Galley restaurant.
Ocean City’s fire chief said the fire started in the back of the building near the kitchen area and expanded to other parts of the building, including the dining area.
The restaurant was unoccupied at the time of the fire and there were no reported injuries, according to the fire department.
Devon Scott, a Mad Fish Bar and Grill employee who rushed to the scene after he heard about the fire, told WBOC, “Everyone has put so much effort into this restaurant to turn the restaurant around and make it Mad Fish Grill, working day in and day out to make sure it’s a successful restaurant. I’m just glad our owners are OK, our managers are OK and our staff are OK.”
Via social media several restaurants in the Ocean City area have offered Mad Fish Bar & Grill employees jobs in the meantime.
The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire’s origin and cause.
