FENWICK ISLAND, Del.- Plans to build a continuous sidewalk along Route 1 in Fenwick Island have received a big financial boost.
The resort town received $250,000 through the state bond bill.
Councilwoman Vicki Carmean said that money will go toward the first phase of construction.
Phase 1 will build sidewalks on the west side of Route 1 from Town Hall heading north to James Street.
However, these plans are dependent on costs.
“We’re not sure what the rules are for using the bond bill money,” Carmean said. “One of the things we’re looking to do is exploring whether we can use local construction companies to build this sidewalk.”
The hope is to eventually build sidewalks on both sides of the full stretch of Route 1 that runs through Fenwick Island.
Carmean said she hopes phase 1 construction can start this fall.
