DELMAR, Del.- Delaware State Police are asking the public’s help in attempting to locate a 29-year-old Delmar, Del. man wanted on assault and weapons charges.
Police said that at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, troopers responded to a domestic incident located on the 10000 block of Hillbilly Lane in Delmar.
Upon arrival, troopers met with a 28-year-old woman who told them that she and her boyfriend, Donnie J. Bennett, had gotten into an argument while they were traveling in a vehicle. According to police, Bennett proceeded to strike the woman and her 8-year-old child who was a rear seat passenger in the vehicle. Troopers said that during this incident, there was also a 6-year-old child present in the vehicle.
Police said that after the altercation, Bennett grabbed the victim’s cellphone and proceeded to run away. Authorities said Bennett later responded to his father’s home located in the 36000 block of Waycross Road, where he proceeded to take firearms before running away.
The female victim was treated on scene with minor injuries and the children were not injured, according to investigators.
Troopers have been unable to locate Bennett who currently has active warrants out of Troop 5 for the following:
- Possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited (4 counts)
- Theft of a firearm (4 counts)
- Third-degree assault
- Endangering the welfare of a child
- Offensive touching
- Disorderly conduct
