SMYRNA, Del.- Smryna police arrested two men on drug and gun charges Friday.
Around 2 p.m., police received a call from a concerned resident in the Green Meadows neighborhood about a possible drug transaction near the park on North Albright Drive, according to the Smyrna Police Department.
Responding officers made contact with 19-year-old Tyler Scott of Dover and 22-year-old Malik Rothwell of Clayton inside a car, police said.
After observing evidence of drug activity, officers conducted a probable cause search of the car they were in, police said.
According to police, officers recovered 545 bags of heroin, as well as a fully loaded 9 millimeter handgun and approximately $1,200 in suspected drug money.
Both Scott and Rothwell were arrested and transported to SPD where they were charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a controlled substance (heroin) in a Tier 3 quantity, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited (previous felony conviction), carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited. Scott was additionally charged with second-degree conspiracy.
Both men were arraigned. Scott was committed to the Department of Correction in lieu of $63,000 secured bond. Rothwell was committed to DOC in lieu of $62,000 secured bond.
