SNOW HILL, Md. – A Berlin man was sentenced on Friday following his conviction on charges stemming from a November 2018 incident.
56-year-old Joseph Baker Sr. was sentenced to 20 years behind bars, with all but seven years suspended, and five years of supervised probation on release. Baker was previously found guilty of illegal possession of a rifle by a disqualified person, illegal possession of a rifle by a prohibited person, illegal possession of ammunition, and second degree assault back on June 12th.
On November 4, 2018, police were called to Libertytown Road in Berlin for a report of a landlord/tenant dispute involving a weapon. It was then learned that the victim/tenant’s landlord, Baker, had threatened to “blow the victim’s head off” while pointing a rifle at him. A subsequent search of Baker’s home resulted in the recovery of a rifle, shotgun, and ammunition, and a computer check revealed that Baker was prohibited from possessing any firearms or ammunition.
